Aerobic Treatment Units: An Alternative to Septic Systems

Operations and Maintenance is the intention of the state to ensure that all systems designed to maintain a specific level of treatment continue to meet or exceed that level throughout time.  If you are viewing this information, you were directed to browse here via mailing or by casually browsing.  Whatever the case, our intent is to shed some light on what you can expect from this law, why it was enacted in the first place,  and how it will directly affect you.

Distantly similar to global warming, the impacts to sewage, untreated or under treated, introduced to our ground water supply offers devastating  effects both in the short and long terms.  Studies have shown the immediate impacts to surrounding waters in the Wekiva Springs river basin area.

Aerobic Treatment Units

The state requires all home owners that utilize Aerobic Treatment Units (ATU's) as a means of waste water disposal to have their systems inspected every 6 months.  The quality of the water is to be tested, pumps adjusted, and filters cleaned.  We have been trained and certified by the ATU manufacturers and licensed by the county and state to perform these tasks.  Wastewater contractors, installing ATU's or other performance based technologies are required by the state to include the first two years of maintenance as part of the package.  If you are approaching or beyond the initial two year period, and Coastal Septic did not install your ATU, please cal us right away.  The state imposes fines for non-compliance! 

What is required

The State regulates and enforces the terms and conditions of both operating permits and select conditions that must be met by wastewater service providers.  Operating Permits are offered on a biennial basis and are currently $150.00.  We offer several different maintenance contracts to meet all the diverse needs of aerobic and performance based treatment owners.
